Why make this website? I won't say exactly how old I am, but let's just say I was able to experience the actual early home internet when I was in my preteens and early teens. I would spend hours chatting and roleplaying in AOL chatrooms, and browsing the beautiful personal websites and fansites that people all over the world had made, mostly ones dedicated to my beloved and recently discovered Pokemon and Sailor Moon. I was pretty happy to simply look at them, but eventually I also started to wonder if making my own website was possible. And I tried! But at the time, the tools and resources paled in comparison to what's available now. I'm sure with enough time, patience, and dedication, I could have made myself something nice, but a younger and less mature me wasn't quite ready for all that. I was able to modify layouts on certain sites I was a member of, which gave me some knowledge I'm now able to apply to site building, but making my own full website was out of reach.
I ended up moving on to what just about everyone else moved on to: Social media. I didn't care for some of them and left them quickly, but I had a great time on Tumblr and Twitter for over a decade each. Eventually, management of each site drove me off of them. Thankfully, before that happened, I discovered Neocities and all of the other gorgeous websites that people are still making, even though I sincerely (and admittedly quite foolishly) thought that those days were long gone. I even discovered that some of the websites I enjoyed when I was younger were still around--sometimes as archives, but sometimes as fully active sites!
Finding Neocities also made me realize that the resources that beginners could use to create websites had drastically improved in the years since I had last dreamed about it. So now, I'm finally doing it! I want to make the me of the past proud, and I think I already have even though I'm just beginning. I personally believe that social media has plenty of real benefits, but I know that it also has a lot of enormous problems that aren't easy to solve, and I've grown tired of dealing with them. I'm happy to build myself a place on this big internet of ours that's all my own, without all of the noise. Welcome to my cozy little internet home!
Where did I get the name of this website from? Sugar Heart Revolution is the name of the solo song for my number one oshi, Shin Sato from Idolmaster Cinderella Girls!
